My favourite memory of William Edwards:
So many to mention. Sports Teacher Harold Napier was a legend in his own lifetime. Such a character would be keen to see if anyone remembers him.
Since leaving William Edwards:
I left school in May 1981 and did not take further education.
- I started working in a double glazing factory manufacturing windows and doors and stayed in this role until 1990.
- In November 1990 I started working at the Port of Tilbury as a Docker.
- I became a crane driver in 1995 and gained promotion to a Supervisor in 2003.
- I left in 2011 and spent 2 years as an Operations Manager at Portsmouth International port.
- I joined London Gateway in 2013.
I met my Wife at Word at Tilbury and she now works alongside me here at London Gateway.
My proudest achievement – My proudest achievements clearly would be seeing my 2 daughters born.
I have one step son, one step daughter and two daughters of my own and also two grandchildren.
I am proud to have achieved promotion to my roles of Manager over the years particularly at London Gateway. Am also proud to be a part of what we are building here. It’s tough going and stressful at times but very rewarding also when you achieve targets.
Life and lifestyle events, hobbies & interests and personal achievements –
No time for too many hobbies but am a West Ham supporter and attend games at the London stadium whenever I can. (Please don’t hold that against me).
I enjoy travelling and have just returned from a holiday to California. We look to go on two holidays each year if the bank account allows and last year we had a Mediterranean cruise and holiday in Dubai.
My advice to the present pupils of William Edwards – Gain as many qualifications as possible particularly in I.T. as this has become a basic requirement in many roles in the current employment climate.
Hard work and a positive attitude will only hold you in good stead and can only enhance career progression.
My next goal – My next goal is to see where any future holidays will take me.
I am also planning ahead for retirement and keeping a close eye on pension contributions. My plan is to retire early if at all possible.
