Brilliant Club

The Brilliant Club Programme

William Edwards is committed to improving the attainment of all pupils and have been working with the Brilliant Club for the past 6 years (http://www.thebrilliantclub.org/about-the-brilliant-club/what-is-tbc/).  The Brilliant Club is an organisation, which seeks to promote widening participation of underrepresented groups at Russell Group universities with the objective of increasing the number of pupils going not only to university, but also to a Russell Group university. Pupils have a small scale university experience over six weeks whereby they visit a top university for a launch trip; have six university style tutorials with a PhD tutor; write a lengthy university style assignment; and then, if successful, visit a second university for a graduation ceremony. It is a challenging programme for the pupils and pushes them both academically and socially. We are proud to have successfully seen 12 cohorts of pupils through the programme totalling 214 pupils.

We also worked with the Brilliant Club during 2022 to provide approximately 140 pupils with government funded tuition in chemistry and English. This was a succession of online lessons lasting 15 hours with pupils working in groups of 3 with a tutor.  This programme is different from the one described above however with the same objective of challenging pupils and promoting their route to university.
