School Uniform for September 2016
The wearing of school uniform is seen as an integral part of school life at William Edwards, and it is expected that all students will wear full school uniform both in school and on the journey to and from school.
All items which are specific to the William Edwards uniform are available from, ‘Sue’s Schoolwear’ in Grays: www.sues-schoolwear.co.uk This includes the William Edwards; school blazer, school skirt, school tie, school jumper, P.E. shorts, P.E. socks and P.E. tops, which can be ordered on line and either delivered to your home address or collected in store. Please note that these items are not available from other suppliers, although ties and P.E. items can be purchased through the William Edwards Student Resource Centre for collection by students.
SCHOOL UNIFORM – ALL STUDENTS
School Blazer: with school badge – from Sue’s Schoolwear.
School Tie: with school badge – from Sue’s Schoolwear
School jumper (optional): with school badge – from Sue’s Schoolwear
School shirt: plain, opaque white cotton or cotton/polyester, long or short sleeved, conventional design to be worn with a tie so no revere collars.
School trousers: plain black, business-style trousers, full length; NOT denim, corduroy, brushed cotton, stretch material, chinos or ‘jeans style’.
Socks: Black, dark grey, dark blue. Short socks only, to be worn with trousers.
Shoes: Black, conventional style, without heels and with black laces. No designer or trainer-style shoes to be worn, no Timberland boots or shoes. No shoes with logos.
Outdoor garments: Coats should be plain, dark coloured, conventional in design and suitable for cold, wet weather. Fleeces and brushed cotton hoodies should not be worn. Coats will be left in the tutor room during the day, so should be clearly marked with your child’s name.
School skirt: William Edwards school skirt, knee length – from Sue’s Schoolwear: PLEASE NOTE: Only William Edwards school skirts from Sue’s Schoolwear are permitted; if a uniform skirt is not purchased, girls must wear tailored, business style trousers.
Tights: must be worn with school skirts, plain black and opaque. Socks must not be worn with skirts.
P.E. KIT – ALL STUDENTS
Pupils should bring their PE kit to, and get changed for, all lesson, even if they are injured or unwell, as they will be expected to take part in a coaching/referee role. Exceptions to this arrangement will only be made with the prior approval of the Head of P.E.

Training shoes with laces: to be used specifically for indoor P.E. NOT basketball style trainers or converse/fashion trainers.
Socks: plain white sports socks.
Shorts: as indoor kit.

Socks: long sports socks, blue and white with W.E.S. logo – from Sue’s Schoolwear
Also required: Football boots, outdoor trainers, shin pads and a gum shield.

We advise you to apply as early as possible for a uniform grant.
One small wristwatch may be worn but no other jewellery, this includes earrings. False nails are not permitted, whatever their length, for Health and Safety reasons. Watches must be removed during P.E. lessons.
Students’ hairstyles should complement school dress. Extreme styles and colours are not acceptable; hair should not be shaved or patterned.
