Double Olympian Brendan Reilly Raises the Bar at William Edwards
On Tuesday 21st November, William Edwards continued with our long standing and proud tradition of welcoming Olympians and Elite Sportspeople to the school. We were extremely privileged to enjoy the company of two-time Olympian and former British Record holder in the High Jump, Brendan Reilly.
Brendan gave an inspirational assembly to students in Years 7 and 8 during which he gave invaluable advice about how to set goals, dream big and work hard, even in the face of adversity. Brendan then spent time working with them on a variety of different physical activities throughout the day.
At the end of the day, Brendan even dusted off his athletics kit and performed a high jump demonstration in which he cleared a bar set at 2 metres and actually jumped over the heads of a group of students!
Brendan also spent some time delivering a small group workshop with the Year 9 Learning through Sport students and three of our Elite young athletes who have represented Essex at the English Schools’ Athletics championships.
Brendan’s visit had a big impact on a large number of students. He left this message for everyone:
“To all at William Edwards, thank you for such a warm welcome. Dream big, Dream bigger, work hard and never give up. All the very best to all of you, now and for your futures. Good luck.”
