Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care Subject Overview

Our vision:

With a BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care, the students are able to explore, challenge and realise their potential. During the course, students can see whether the industry is one they’d like to be in, where they could go, and gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their next steps.

What’s more, the practical transferable skills the students master during their studies such as self-reflection, communication, teamwork and problem solving will also support their progress in the present and the future.

We see our key objectives as:

  • Providing students with essential life-skills although from a H&SC perspective that can be applicable to real life future lives.
  • Giving the opportunity to gain an insight into different life events and how they have affected a range of people from different life stages
  • Providing students with key industry skills they will need for the working world (for example, empathy, recognising diversity and difference).
  • To understand the career pathways available to them in the Heath & Social Care industry

As a department, we believe that Health & Social Care is important to a student’s programme of study for a number of reasons:

Explore how individuals develop physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually over time.

Investigate how various factors, events and choices may impact on individuals’ growth and development.

Learn which health and social care services are available, identify why people might need to use these services and explore what might stop people from accessing the services they need.
