William Edwards school recently hosted a visit by the Secretary of State for Education, the Right Honourable Nicky Morgan MP. The Secretary of State was keen to hear first-hand about the work of the school which, earlier in the year, led it to be named ‘Educational Establishment of the Year’ at the 2014 Education Resources Awards.
She visited two Year 8 English lessons, met with a group of staff for a round-table discussion about the future direction of education policy and visited the new Thurrock Teaching School Alliance training facility.
Following Ms. Morgan’s visit, the DfE posted a short video about the visit in which she stated that, “it was fabulous to visit such an outstanding school,” and that she had found the experience, “really inspirational”.
Ms. Morgan was equally as glowing about the work and achievements of the school in her interview with the local press when she stated that, “We talk about what we call a school-led self-improving system and that basically means teachers taking responsibility for themselves and colleagues in terms of training and schools setting examples and that’s exactly what we see here at William Edwards, setting an outstanding example to other schools.”.
