As a school, we are proud to serve our local community and aim to celebrate its multi-faceted diversity through our taught curriculum and supra-curricular offer.

International Links:

Our key international partner schoolwork began in autumn 2024 when Mr Curtis attended the UK-German Connection Partner Finding Seminar in Mainz, Germany.

We have since been working with SKS-Jessen Nord: https://www.sks-jessen-nord.bildung-lsa.de/

Pupils in current (2024-2025) Year 8 have prepared information about themselves, their school and town in German and English respectively with this being shared between Frau Tandel and Mr Curtis using the secure Padlet platform.  This has subsequently been shared in lessons at both schools.

This link is supported by UK-German Connection.  More information can be found here:  https://ukgermanconnection.org/pp/programmes/

International Visits:

The Pandemic and the UK’s new relationship with the EU both provided significant changes and different challenges to how school groups travel and can access funding to support international collaboration and visits.  With true WES resilience, staff have found ways to ensure that pupils can still engage with the wider world in an educational setting outside of the UK.

Recent international visits include:

  • History and German visit to Berlin, Germany
  • Ski trip to Les Deuz Alpes, France
  • Dance trip to Disneyland Paris, France
  • Geography and French river study visit to Ardèche, France.

As more opportunities arise, we will keep pupils and families informed!

Internationalism and Diversity in the curriculum:

There is an extensive range of activities that take place here at WES across the curriculum including:

  • French and German taught as specific subjects to GCSE
  • Heritage language support for pupils wishing to take exams in years 10 and 11 at GCSE
  • Global Culture and Cuisine in Hospitality and Catering
  • Impact of Migration to the UK from the Roman Era to Windrush Generation and beyond.
